The topic that I've chosen for this report is temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). According to medtems.com TMJ is defined as temporomandibular joint, the joint that hinges the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull. TMJ can cause pain in the joints and muscles when using the jaw. It affects a person's ability to speak, eat, make facial expressions, and sometimes breath, says tmj.com. The cause of TMJ is not clear according to medicinenet.com, but symptoms came from problems with the muscles or parts of the jaw. Injuries like a heavy blow or whiplash and grinding your teeth can also cause TMJ. According to tmjtreatment.org prolonged jaw opening during some dental treatments can cause problems. After removal of wisdom teeth, root canal therapy and bridge work can give you TMJ. Symptoms can also come from poorly fitting caps, bridges, fillings, and dentures.
