Maya Lin vs. Richard Serra Maya Lin and Richard Serra are artists who, in my opinion, only share similar styles in the fact that they both have created larger than life sculptures at some juncture in their lives. When I concentrate my attention to comparing the two sculptures I get two very different feelings from each one. (I admit that I may have chosen the wrong one to view first.) When I looked at the two sculptures I tried to image standing before them and what it would feel like to experience it in person. I looked over Lin's first. No one in the presence of her sculpture would be able to deny its existence and just pass by without acknowledging it. The memorial commands your undivided attention as the names of the dead call out to you. The wall is a representation of an American memory. She intelligently took a tragic piece of history and made an enormous reminder of the war and the names of everyone who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. I would be left in awe if I were to visit Lin's wall. I could only imagine the intensity of the emotions her sculpture ......
