The Rise of Oliver Cromwell: From Obscurity to Lord Proctor Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

"Necessity hath no law"-Oliver Cromwell Oliver Cromwell was an unprecedented figure in British and European history. The legacy he left is disputed by historians around the world, despite almost all of the information coming from primarily the same source, Thomas Carlyle's collection of letters form Cromwell himself written in 1845. (Gale Research) Was he a radical dictator, or strong-minded fighter for liberty? This is what I will cover in this paper, along with the background on what the man was all about. His story is extremely interesting because of his rapid accent from modest upbringing to prominent statesman to military mastermind to the leader of one of the most powerful nations in the world. Also interesting is Oliver's confidence in his religion. He strongly believed that God's will was behind him and his soldiers. His political goals were also profoundly religiously based.
