Sally Ride Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

On June 18, 1983, it happened. On that day one woman made history by being the first women to fly through space. Did you ever wonder who that woman was? Her name was Sally Ride. Sally as born in a suburb in Encino, California on May 26, 1951. She flew on the shuttle called the Challenger. Sally Ride was many things, an astronaut, tennis player, and most importantly a role model and leader to girls and women. Sally Ride's full name was Sally Kristen Ride. She grew up with only one sister, a mother, and father. Her mothers name was Joyce Ride. Joyce was a volunteer counselor at a nearby women's correctional Institution. Sally's father's name was Dale. B. Ride. He was a professor of political science at Santa Monica Community College. Sally's sister's name was Karen Ride Scott. Karen grew up to be a Presbyterian minister. Even though Sally didn't grow up with any brothers, you could always find her in the street playing with the neighborhood boys. She always loved playing rough.
