Sally as born in a suburb in Encino, California on May 26, 1951. She flew on the shuttle called the Challenger. Sally Ride was many things, an astronaut, tennis player, and most importantly a role model and leader to girls and women. Sally Ride's full name was Sally Kristen Ride. She grew up with only one sister, a mother, and father. Her mothers name was Joyce Ride. Joyce was a volunteer counselor at a nearby women's correctional Institution. Sally's father's name was Dale. B. Ride. He was a professor of political science at Santa Monica Community College. Sally's sister's name was Karen Ride Scott. Karen grew up to be a Presbyterian minister.
