How does Shakespeare create tension in act three scene one of Romeo and Juliet? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare between the years of 1591 - 1595. The play tells the story of "two star cross'd lovers" and their unavoidable fate. Act three scene one of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is the pivotal point of the play if none of the events which happened in act three scene one never happened maybe Romeo and Juliet wouldn't have died, but on a negative note maybe the Capulet and Montague feud wouldn't have ended. Shakespeare uses many dramatic devices used to create tension and suspense, for example he uses pathetic fallacy and also uses many strong curses which people would have taken serious offence to in Elizabethen times. We also see a side of Romeo which we have never seen before this conflict begins. Romeo is portrayed as a clam and peaceful character only wanting to end the feud with the Capulets, but after this scene he breaks out of his shell and goes on a rampage chasing after Tybalt, killing him as revenge for his friend's death.
