Role of Suicide in 7 Stories and Polygraph Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Suicide is an often very touchy subject that tends to show up in places where you least expect it. It is a phenomenon that is not fully understood, and the motives behind it are often very confusing and frustrating. That being said, suicide is also something that draws a lot of attention, and is a great topic for endless discussion. This essay will look at the role of suicide in two plays, Morris Panych's "7 Stories" and Robert LePage and Marie Brassard's "Polygraph." "7 Stories" is a play entirely centered on the idea of committing suicide. The main character, known only as "the Man," is standing out on the 7th story ledge of a building contemplating whether or not he is going to jump. It's obvious that he is thinking about committing suicide, however he does not seem to understand why he wants to do it, or even if he is sure he can. What makes this play interesting is that as various other characters come on onto the ledge and communicate with the Man, no one seems to question what he is doing, and no one tries to stop him.
