How Sir Thomas More criticizes English Morals with his novel Utopia Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Thomas More uses his novel Utopia to criticize society, morals, and politics in England. A traveler, More is introduced to by Peter Giles, named Raphael believes that the Kingdom of Utopia trumps the English way of life; he explains, in detail, every aspect of Utopian life to both Thomas More and Peter Giles. Peter is the lucky man to first come in contact with Raphael, a sailor whom lived in Utopia for five years. Peter introduces Raphael to More after realizing that he was quite the scholar and was right on par with the mind of Sir Thomas More and himself. Raphael tells the two men of the towns, slaves, marriages, military, morals, and religion in Utopia. This "Utopia" is created by More to mock England and highlight all of the problems he sees in it. Right off the bat Raphael says that the Utopians do not hold gold in high esteem, unlike the English whose society revolves around financial needs. The Utopians actually have a law that states that their treasury will not go over a certain amount and that it is to be used for hiring mercenaries in times of war. You see in Utopia t......
