I believe that pre-trial release programs are effective and are useful. They help by reducing the overcrowding in jails. This can spark a decrease in arrestees being kept in jail and can save the government money. Pre-trial release programs base eligibility on previous criminal record, family history, length of stay in the community and job history. There are many arrestees that are not eligible for this program; the program implements a very detailed screening. Defendants are released under the circumstances, which they promise to appear to all proceedings. Research has confirmed the operating assumption (Sidiqui 2004).On the other hand, bail bondsmen are losing revenue. Pre-trial release programs are based on background and drug screenings.
