The election of 1828 was a very different from the election of 1824 for Jackson. Jackson had to go against his opponent from the previous election and he should change his ways to win this time. Jackson changed the ways a normal president would act and was seen as the first "modern" president. Jackson changed the way of presidential campaigning, increased the power of the president, and increased democracy (which no other president had done). These were the ways Jackson changed and made him be seen as the first modern president.
Jackson was running for president against John Quincy Adams in 1828. Jackson had thought that the previous presidential election he had against John Quincy Adams was a "corrupt bargain". This meant that Adams made a deal with Clay that if Clay told the House of Representatives to vote for Adams, Adams would allow Clay to be his Secretary of State (which was seen as the 'way to the presidency').
