Freedom is finally here! Most can remember having similar thoughts once we were finally able to drive on our own. Did we even think about the risks we would be taking each time we pulled out of our driveways? I know I did not. My attitude toward driving was, "I'm a good driver and more attentive than most people my age; I'll be fine." A lot of us have this attitude and we should probably rethink this idea of being somewhat invincible. Hopefully some statistics will help show why. Young adults are the smallest percent of drivers, yet we have the greatest accident rate. Inattentive driving and alcohol cause the majority of these accidents. Each year, drinking and driving is responsible for at least 24,000 traffic fatalities and cause more than one-half million injuries. Those 24,000 deaths due to alcohol related crashes are thirty-one percent of all accident fatalities.
