1 Labour market liberalization around the EU Nevertheless trade barriers have been entirely removed when the EU-Enlargement in May 2004 set in; there are still integration restrictions inside the enlarged EU. One of theses restrictions is the liberalisation of labour mobility among the 'old' EU members states (the EU-15) and the new members of the European Union. At the latest of 2011 all members are forced to open their labour markets unrestrictedly. Countries like Sweden, Great Britain, Netherlands and France have already opened their borders for workers from the eastern part of the EU. In fact, Germany and Austria are the only members who still restrict labour movement, because they fear a deterioration of the labour-market situation. Surely income disparities and better living conditions can be reasons for a labour movement from eastern to western EU-countries, particularly regions like the Burgenland or Görlitz could be influenced by Polish workers.
