I live in a cozy three bedroom apartment. On a cold day I can feel the warmth immediately hit me as I open the door. With a snack from the fridge, the news on the television and a couch that swallows me like a Venus fly trap made of cotton, I sit and sigh with the hope that one day I can own a home of my own. Tell that to the people who are sleeping below the underpass down the road from my apartment complex.
If you were to ride with me, I could show you a side of humanity that we all like to pretend wasn't there. I left my apartment in route to the local library. On the way to the library there is an underpass that I must drive through in order to get to my destination.
As I drove under, I looked up to the right and saw what seemed to be an outdoor "Hilton". Sleeping in separate places, because each person had their own reserved spot, were several homeless people. My face was frozen with shock. Though I understood completely what I had seen, the reality of it took a while to sink in. The fact that it was a sixty second drive away from my apartment complex baffled me.......
