Women of the Civil War Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The American Civil War (1861-1865) was a pivotal event in the history if our nation. During this time, hundreds of thousands of America's soldiers died. This was a war between two parts of the nation, where friends and former allies had to face each other on the battle field. Many women were incredibly influential: some were abolitionists, others were participants on the battlefields, and many worked as nurses. The Civil War was mainly influenced by the issues and ideals of slavery. The country was split about slavery: the North believed it was morally wrong to own slaves, while the South needed the slaves to keep their plantations growing. During this time period there were many abolitionists that were trying to free the slaves and give them rights. People like Fredrick Douglas and John Brown were abolitionists, but many women were also working hard to help slaves get the rights they deserved. Women such as Harriet Beecher Stowe inspired many to reanalyze their ideas about slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe was born in 1811 in Connecticut. She was born to a family full of writers, ......
