On January 30th, 1968, approximately 70,000 North Vietnamese soldiers along with the guerrilla fighters of the NLF launched the Tet Offensive. These widely televised battles were a real turning point in the public's view of the continued inexhaustible American war. In the aftermath of the Tet Offensive we are left with two viable choices: Our first option is to withdraw all of the American troops and hand over Southern Vietnam to the people; the second option is to increase the military presence and escalate our armed forces by advancing into the North - throwing a finishing blow to the NVA, breaking their spirit and resolve to fight. Furthermore, the press coverage for the Tet Offensive has added to the political turbulence leading into the approaching presidential reelection, and we must consider the current state of unrest in our country before choosing the second option.
