1930s baseball Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the 1930s baseball was the sport of America, everyone kept up with the game and knew what was going on in the baseball community. Baseball in the 30s was plagued by the Great Depression and racism, but through new technology like radio fans never missed a beat. Americans connected to the game with their heats and souls. To promote baseball and attendance the Major League team owners of the 1930s established the MVP (most valuable player) award, the first All-Star game, and the Hall of Fame. Teams like the Cardinals and the Gas House Gang, and players like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, would become infamous and a critical part of baseball history. To attract fans to baseball games during the depression teams had some whacky promotions; they gave away groceries, had beauty contests, mortgage payments and started playing night games. They also had other promotions like having teams of black players play teams of white players to attract both crowds of blacks and whites to games.
