Traveling in danger Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
I arrived in the South American airport San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It was the first time I
traveled to Central America. Stepping off the plane, I witnessed a small rural airport managing
the overwhelming task of unloading and refueling a 747 jet liner. It was 1993, I found myself in
a third world country with overwhelming butterflies in my stomach. As I exited the plane I was
smacked in the face with 125 degree humidity, I felt like a total outsider. Policeman armed with
machine-guns patrolled in their pickup trucks. As I entered the airport the only modern
convenience that I recognized was the fast food chain "Wendy's". Then I realized the ease of
ordering a meal by a number system, as I didn't speak any Spanish.
After my meal and lingering in the airport for hours, my flight was finally called to board.
I transferred to a small propeller plane to take me to my final destination, the bay island of
Roaton. The small plane had only one propeller on each wing and by the look of it should have
been a retired aircraft years ago. The interior ......
