Comparing London by William Blake and Composed Upon Westminster Bridge by William Wordsworth Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Looking closely at 'London' by William Blake and 'Composed Upon Westminster Bridge' by William Wordsworth, compare and contrast the ways in which the city of London is presented and described by these two poets. In this essay I am going to study William Blake's and William Wordsworth's views on the city of London and the country of England, using 'London' by Blake and 'Composed upon Westminster Bridge' by Wordsworth. Both Blake and Wordsworth were regarded as being romantic poets, which meant they freely showed their opinions regarding Romanticism throughout most of their poems. Many Romantic Poets saw the countryside as being beautiful, inspirational and pure compared to the corruption of the city. They used this purity of the countryside to come up with an assortment of great, new, creative ideas. The purity of the countryside was a breath of fresh air to the Romantic Poets, who despised the emphasis on science; romantics prefer the imagination, always favouring the pen to the test tube. This new focus on all things scientific was helped by Britain's movement into the age ......
