The hundred years War was the result of English assertion to the French throne. The English King, King Edward 3rd was the only remaining hair the the French Throne after King Charles 4th Died with no Heir. The French Nobles didn't appreciate this so they appointed Philip VI to the French Throne. King Edward 3rd happened to be a vassal of the newly appointed French King. The Rightful heir to the French throne wasn't the only reason for the start of the hundred year war. The other major disagreement was the one over land. Both countries wanted control over the land of flanders. The two countries actually border each other. Flanders was very tied to the French But the modern economy of the time Tied it to the English. Flanders was where the English got their wool from. Through most of the war the English were winning the war even though the French had three times the population. Also the English longbow was the English weapon of choice.
