3-Iron- A film that tells a story by saying nothing
1.) In the Korean film 3-Iron, directed by Ki-duk Kim, is like nothing American cinema has ever seen. What seems to be so very unique about this film is that the limited use of language leaves mannerisms to tell the story. The main character, Sun-wha, male is childlike at times and his eyes and body language tell most of the story. He appears to be playing house throughout the film and enjoying it. His facial expressions show us that many of the things he encounters in these houses are new to him. The camera technique where the lens circles around him as he discovers something new makes the viewer aware that he is at a point of deep concentration and appeal. At first, he interprets making minor cosmetic improvements to the home as a good balance for staying in the home while whichever couple is on vacation, possessing an 'if no one gets harmed' mentality.
The camera works overtime in this film and is a major asset to depict the use of progression in the film. At one point early on, Sun-wha is taking a picture with the pic......
