INTRODUCTION
"Different cultural groups view the world differently and therefore value and do things differently" (Tu'itahi, 2007, p.8) Pacific Islanders mostly value a more collective approach to life in general than being individualistic. Their health and wellbeing is defined within a broad framework that includes physical, mental, spiritual and within an environment context. As a result of this difference pacific people have developed health promotional model that depicts the pacific people and which works in favour of them (Tu'itahi, 2007).
This essay will aim to briefly describe one of the pacific health models, the fonofale model, and will also discuss how this model can enhance nursing practice. Moreover, it will attempt to demonstrate the application of the fonofale model to holistically assess the cultural and clinical needs of a pacific client, previously nursed. Finally this essay will address and critically analyze the values and belief that has influenced the health status of the patient.
