In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee tells the tale of two siblings and the various interactions they share with other Maycomb residents. Throughout the novel, the children face various problems and develop multiple, but unorthodox, ways to solve them. Their ways, can be blamed on Atticus, their father. As a white lawyer, he controversially defends Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape. Along with racial issues present in the novel, the children deal with the mystifying Arthur "Boo" Radley. To present her ideas more effectively, Lee repeatedly alludes to the Stock Market Crash. Not only does this allusion help set the framework for the novel, but it also allows precise characterization and conveys a significant theme present in the novel. Undoubtedly, the Stock Market Crash of 1929 conveys a literal and symbolic importance in To Kill a Mockingbird.
