William Shakespeare's eighteenth sonnet, Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day? is one of his most famous sonnets. Shakespeare's eighteenth sonnet compares his beloved subject to a 'summer's day' but it is about an unrequited love. The theme of love is present throughout the sonnet; however it may not be about a romantic love. Shakespeare's use of language and techniques demonstrate why he is still famous today. I really enjoyed this sonnet because of the controversial beloved Shakespeare wrote about. Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day? is a sonnet about unrequited love, but many who have studied and analyzed this poem believed that the love is for a young man. Whether it is a plutonic love or something more, it has been seen as the ultimate romance sonnet. He talks about the beauty of his beloved being infinite, even though he compares his beloved to a season that isn't. He explains how summer will fade but his beloved's beauty will not. Shakespeare is talking about someone in their youth, whether it is for a male or female - the power of his love is recognizable. Although......
