This is a big word and a big thing, for nations and for individuals.
Becoming self-sufficient was an important goal for me and is important to me still. I graduated from college in the middle of June 1999 with a master's degree in Physical Education. I could have stayed home and enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle with all the things I could have wanted. However, I knew I needed to be on my own so I moved far away from Poland and my family to America July 6th of 1999. It was a very personal and hard decision to make but the only choice for me to deeply improve myself. When I announced to my parents my plan they both almost had heart attacks. It was a shock for them and there were nearly a thousand questions asked. The first question my father asked me was "how much money do you need?" I responded "buy me a plane ticket, and give me a hundred bucks." For me my mind was made up, inside me I needed a challenge and wanted more.
