Introduction
This essay will compare radical changes and incremental changes and explain when they will be used. The theories with be demonstrated with examples.
The definitions of radical change and incremental change vary from person to person. In the book Organization Theory and Design, they are defined as follows: incremental change is a series of continual progresses, establishing structure and management processes; while radical change is change of structures and management processes (Daft R. L., 2006).
However, people have consensus on some typical features of these two types of changes. When referring to radical change, we are talking about something with an episodic process, targeting to innovate, and needs revolutionary tactics. Meanwhile, when referring to incremental change, we think it has continuous process, aims at improvement and evolutionary tactics will be used to implement it (Peterson A.H., Boer H., Gertsen F., 2004).
