While reading sections of "The Metamorphoses Selected Short Stories in Verse", I found a poem in which I wish to focus, entitled "Jupiter and Callisto". Jupiter is the name of the Roman Zeus and also referred to as Jove. The Metamorphoses was written by Ovid, a Roman poet telling the history of the world. In this specific poem of "Jupiter of Callisto" Ovid in a way is summing up the history and nature of dominant males. In a previous tale a great fire caused much destruction and Earth was noticeably damaged. Jove being the patriarch of the gods took it upon himself to repair the world. While rejuvenating the scorched landscape to its original form, Jove could not help but notice a fair nymph in the Arcadian glade. The virgin he desires is named Callisto. Upon seeing Callisto, Jove instantly is taken with feelings and thoughts of lust. Upon seeing her Jove cannot think of anything or anyone so beautiful. Everything about her is fascinating; her hair is flawless, and a lock of her hair is coming undone, and this slight imperfection is casual......
