Outside Factors Effect Neighborhoods Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
In the book by Silverman Rader, The World is a Text, the two "Neighborhood" pictures they chose are completely different (402). One picture depicts what has come to represent virtually every intercity in the United States; old, decrepit, multi-family, multi-story, public housing units. The other picture shows newly constructed, well maintained, suburban, single family, owned homes. Missing from both pictures are the residents that inhabit each neighborhood along with their personal circumstances. There are outside factors at work that have accelerated the process of causing the suburban neighborhood to look like the urban neighborhood: easy loans, Government policies, and mortgage companies.
Many banks made the process of getting a loan much easier for people who really could not afford it. The basic story goes something like this. For years, the price of homes kept increasing and made mortgage loans less risky. The lending industry dramatically lowered their standards, either on their own or due to government regulation.
