Tragic Heros Oedipus and Augustus Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Augustus and Oedipus as Tragic Heroes Aristotle's definition of a tragic hero is someone who fits between these extremes; a person who is neither perfect in virtue and justice, nor one who falls into misfortune through vice and depravity, but rather, one who succumbs through some miscalculation (larryavisbrown.homestead.com). It is essentially a noble hero who makes a mistake in his or her actions which eventually leads to their downfall. Oedipus, from the tragedy "Oedipus the King" by Sophocles and Augustus, from the tragedy "The Darker Face of the Earth" by Rita Dove are both perfect examples of Aristotle's Tragic Hero. Oedipus is a perfect model for a Tragic Hero. He is the king, ruler of the kingdom, whose life falls apart when he discovers the truth of his life story. Oedipus turns into the villain in the end. He creates his own destruction which leads to his fall from power. He fights to discover the truth even though he was forewarned by Tiresias it could lead to his demise. As the reader when Oedipus realizes what he has done you feel sorry for him. O......
