Lewicki, Saunders, and Barry (2006, p. 32), define distributive bargaining as a competition, a "zero-sum" or win/lose negotiation situation, in which opposition between the involved parties' interests exists. This contrasts with integrative bargaining (win/win negotiations), in which the goals of the involved parties are not mutually exclusive. When one party achieves desired goals, the other party can still achieve their desired goals. The purpose of this paper will be to review two articles that describe a negotiation situation, with each article employing a different negotiation strategy, describe each negotiation process used in the articles, compare, and contrast the two strategies, and describe how each might apply to my work setting.
