In the 1960's a woman named Betty Friedan started the "new wave" of feminism and opened the eyes of many, when she released her book called The Feminine Mystique. With this book it brought up the topic of women in the U.S as stay at home wives, mothers and that their ultimate goal in life of being married. The book also pointed out that women were made to believe that they were intellectually limited. Women were also thought of as dependent and unable to make decisions. With woman thinking limitedly and men only making the big decisions, there was a wide-open area for stereotyping them. This book also helped reduce stereotyping later on even if it is 20 years after the book was released.
In Print Advertisements women were used for house products since women were viewed as housewives and only spent their time and energy cleaning and preparing the house for the family.
