Barbary Pirates Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
In the novel, "The Barbary Pirates", by C.S. Forester, it depicts the time in which the Barbary pirates ruled the coast of Africa and a time in which no one could put an end to their increasing power. There were many sea battles, midnight raids, hand-to-hand combats, and even the first landing on foreign soil by the U.S. Marines that took place over two hundred years ago. This was a time in which American sailors risked everything in honor and dedication to their country. They wanted to see an end to all this fighting and they wanted to create peace with the Barbary Pirates. Enough was enough.
The Barbary Pirates were Muslims and considered piracy or the purpose of their wars/acts of piracy to be religious reasons and thought it was their duty to make war on the Christians. The Barbary States included Morocco, Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli, all part of the Ottoman Empire in the North Africa.
