Many people wonder just what a jelly fish is. Is it a fish? Is it a mammal? To answer that question, many sea jellies belong to a group of animals called Cnidaria, a coelenterate animal. Jellyfish do not have a brain or any sophisticated sense organs. They are one of the few animals that can reproduce sexually and asexually. Jellies are found in all the oceans of the world and even in some freshwater lakes and rivers. In the summer, one may see some washed up on the beach or floating in a harbor. Jellyfish have been discovered more than 9,843 feet below the surface, and they most likely exist to full ocean depth. Jelly fish are very mysterious and intriguing, accepting the name of Jewels of the Sea.
Cnidarians are radially symmetrical animals having sack-like bodies. They have deep purple bands marking its umbrella-shaped body. Jellyfish have eight long and slender pink tentacles that hang down from the edges of its body. They also have a frilly mass of white and pink, like ruffles on a dress, trails out from the center.
