California Paradise Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
California was first established as a state in 1950, but most of the California symbols were created in the 1900's. The state colors were established in 1951, over half a century ago. Over fifty years ago the colors blue and gold were chosen to symbolize the rapid-paced California. Blue was chosen due to its popularity. Blue symbolizes the blue skies and oceans of California. Gold was chosen for its major role during the gold rush and settlements that brought popularity to California. Blue and gold were also being used by the first established university in California, UC Berkeley. I believe that both blue and gold were chosen for the right reasons fifty years ago, but are not applicable for today in representing our state California. The colors chosen for California were chosen through factors that were designated for one time period in California and are now unfit for the modernized transformation of California. Rather than having the state colors be blue and gold, I believe that ocean blue and orange would be a better fit in symbolizing California.
