Juvenile Dermatomyositis also known as JDM is a disease that causes muscle weakness and a skin rash. Juvenile Dermatomyositis is a disease that is found only in children under the age of eighteen. This disease affects 3,000 to 5,000 children in the United States. There is still no cure for this disease, but once diagnosed with juvenile Dermatomyositis and put under the right treatment the disease can be controlled. ( The Myositis Association )
The first sign of the disease is a skin rash. The rash will appear on the face, eyelids, and hands. The rash may also appear on the knuckles, knees, and elbows. The rash is pinkish purple in color, and can often be mistaken for allergies, eczema, fifth disease, and other common skin conditions.
