At the age of 28, Heath Ledger passed away due to a toxic combination of FDA-approved medications that were prescribed to him by his own doctor. OxyContin, Valium, Xanax, Restoril, Unisom and Vicodin were found in his system after his death (Adams 1). It is assumed that if Heath had known that this was a deadly mix of pharmaceuticals, then he obviously wouldn't have taken them. It's hard to think that Heath's doctor could have prevented his death by thinking before he prescribed these medicines. One-hundred-thousand Americans die from FDA-approved medicine each year (Longely 2). Heath Ledger's incident is just one of the thousands that are happening all the time. Americans are overmedicated because people are unaware of the risks, medication is more available, and drug companies are deceitful.
