Nosology, or the field of disease characterization, is seldom mentioned when placed among other, more prominent domains, as a general misconception exists that it has little or no promise. What may blatantly strike people is that modern nosology may immeasurably impact the treatment and classification of sickness. By pinpointing a recurrent gene within diseases, doctors have correlated ailments once thought entirely independent, and have separated ailments having been previously linked. While at first glance this may seem mildly significant, this unearthing affords doctors the possibility of treating patients not by identifying symptoms, rather by identifying the genetic roots - a less fickle data set. Scientists are beginning to depict what is known as the human "diseasome," mimicking the human genome. The "diseasome," is the array of all diseases linked to their common genes.
