At first glance, people may say that Angels with Dirty Faces seems just like any ordinary shoot-em-up gangster movies. However, once one delves deeper into the true plot and iconic meanings of the movie, they can see the true ideals that it was trying to portray. The late 1930's were a dark and dismal time for almost all Americans. The impotence of local governments lead to many crimes, which made for even darker times for Americans. However, at the end of the darkness of the Depression, a bright light of new hope stood, ready to give the American people a "New Deal". His name was Franklin D. Roosevelt. He wanted to alleviate all of those people that had suffered greatly by this Depression, and he wanted a second chance for all and to improve the quality of life for all. The Catholic Church took great interest in FDR's plan, and advocated for him fiercely, because the New Deal had many ideas that were very much in the same with Catholic ideals.
