The first works of Nikolai Gogol, writer of Ukrainian origin, relied on folk motifs, highly lyrical descriptions of landscapes, elements of fiction and the characters somewhat flat, which, of course, corresponds with the then dominant European literary currents - romanticism. But soon, announcing a series of novels known as the Petersburg tales, including the celebrated raincoat, Gogol introduces the specific realism - social character and motivations of their representativity in contemporary society. An element of fantasy, here is now evident as grotesque, and will continue to permeate Gogols work. Already at the beginning of Gogol's cloak seems to want a series of descriptive details, such as not naming department which is simply calling certain department, describing his pale appearance as did a very interesting choice of names, ironically denies the very identity Akakia Akakijevich Bashmachkina, a clerk .
