House on Mango Street Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Growing up is a way of life, but one lost little girl is not ready for this drastic change. The novella " The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros is a fiction story about a young girl (Esparanza) who is a lost and struggles with the idea that she has to grow up, whether she likes it or not. Sandra Cisneros describes Esparanza as feeling skeptical about making the transition from child to adolescent all the ay to becoming a young lady using similes, imagery and repetitive language. In the beginning of the story Esparanza is represented as a very confused little girl. One day while visiting the monkey garden down the street Esparanza says, "this is where I wanted to die, I tried one day but even the monkey garden would not have me." In this quote we can easily see that she is so upset and depressed over the situation she has even considered suicide.
