Scarlet Letter Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The title The Scarlet Letter is significant because this object and the feelings it revolves around are the center of the book. The Letter itself signifies open sin, guilt, shame, passion, and wildness and also becomes a sort of badge of good service. It is this letter that allows Hester to become strong and independent. Hester is given the Scarlet letter as punishment, but she learns from it, so this title is very just and fitting because the emotions, plot, and messages are all somewhat brought on by the Scarlet Letter. Hester Prynne is the main protagonist who is given the Scarlet Letter as punishment for committing adultery against her husband, Chillingworth. Hester represents wild power, passion, and wisdom from pain. She is a good-hearted woman who eventually leaves guilt behind to advance forward. She is empathetic and comforting, but at the same time strong, courageous, and wild from her badge. She is not the average Puritan woman who has been through a lot and learned from her sufferings. In the town, she first represents sin, but eventually evolves in the town's eye......
