Why does the US continue to keep the Electoral College around? Did our Founding Fathers simply not realize that the Electoral College system effectively took the power away from the people to select the President of American? Yes, they certainly did. In fact the Founding Fathers had always intended that the states would be the one selecting the president, not the people.(Kimberling)This rule was put to work when it was hard to get a vote from every citizen because of where they may have lived. There were also only 13 colonies making the system seem more logical.(Hewson)The Founding Fathers intended for this to be an easy process at the time but our population has grown tremendously ever since. All together the Electoral College should be abolished. First, the Electoral College is in Article 2 of the 12th Amendment.(Kimberling) This amendment was proposed to congress on December 9th in 1803. The 12th Amendment was later established in 1804.
