The impacts of Jesus and Mohammed have been felt since the days they walked the earth, and continue today. These two men have shaped religions, societies, and the world. While each is worshipped in different ways, their messages remain constant and inspire millions to their faiths. We will review the lives and deaths of these men through a historical perspective and compare the effects each has had on Christianity and Islam, respectively. Describing the ways both have been worshipped, we will explain how their messages continue to permeate and inspire today.
The lives of Jesus and Mohammed share many parallels. Both were born into and held rather low stations in society. Orphaned at a young age and raised by an uncle, Mohammed worked as a shepherd at a time when shepherding was considered among the lowest of occupations. As the story is told, Jesus was conceived by the "Holy Spirit', born to a virgin and raised by her husband, Joseph. Jesus himself was a skilled laborer, a carpenter.
