The education of circus people in Dickensâ€<sup>TM</sup> Hard Times is different than the education of citizens in Moreâ€<sup>TM</sup>s Utopia. However, further analysis shows striking similarities regarding teaching, thus linking certain aspects of these two societies. By looking at the affects of education on communication, instruction, and leisure, we can see similarities and differences between these two cultures. A first-rate education is desirable by circus people and Utopians. The intelligence of circus people is clearly inferior to others in their society. â€oeThe combined literature of the whole company would have produced but a poor letter on any subject.” This can be attributed to their poor grammatical and analytical skills. Their speech is colloquial, barely comprehensible, and is communicated inadequately to the upper class. Nonetheless, their communication is understandable among members of the lowest class, the circus people. Conversely, the intelligence of Utopians is considerably higher.
