Most people who throw all things away don't really think about it. It is part of a daily life most of us don't even think about or realize what we waste. If you don't see where it goes then it doesn't matter what you throw away. What most people don't know is that when they don't recycle it harms the Earth and in return they are only harming their own health in doing so. When I read Eighner's piece, it made me think of how much Americans really do waste things. All the landfills that hold plastic, glass, boxes and anything else that could have been reused or recycled just sit there and are wasted items. Those items could have been reused or recycled if people just took the little extra time out of their lives to do so. Most of that stuff makes it to our oceans and lakes and kills the animals that live in the water. That means the ecosystem gets messed up and animals could become extinct before their time.
