Role of the Matriarch Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The absence of a mother figure contributes significantly to the character flaws of a husband and child. Mothers nurture their husbands and their growing, maturing babies. A complete family, that is the presence of both parents, is the ideal living condition for children. Unfortunately, a complete family is never the case in the play King Lear written by William Shakespeare. The missing mother to both families, Lear's and Gloucester's, is the one major ingredient that could have changed everything. Lear's family members would likely have satisfying relationships with one another rather than enemies. Lear would be able to control his daughters and keep order in his kingdom and country. Gloucester's family would have trust rather than betrayal. Gloucester would be able determine love the proper way and handle situations more appropriately. This is proven in the analysis of the importance of a maternal figure and the ill effects of an absent matriarch on the lives of the children and their fathers. The nurturing a mother provides is unparalleled and is vital to the growth of a child......
