In the world of Nineteen Eight-Four where Totalitarian regimes rule and there are three very distinct and separate classes, it is possible for characters to be truly both free and happy. By exploring various characters from the three hierarchical stages, Winston also from the outer party, the Parsons family also from the outer party, O'Brien from the inner party, and the proles, I will discuss who I believe can fit this criterion in the gloomy world of Nineteen Eighty-Four. Winston, a hardworking outer-party member, is not a free or happy person in this life of utter control and manipulation. Throughout the book, he is finding ways to rebel against the carefully planned scheme of Big Brother, from starting his diary to engaging in a love affair with Julia. He is not happy in this world where his must control his every expression or telescreens will accuse him of facecrime, and he does all he can to fight the system which he lives in, but secretly though and with the 'brotherhood'. In his diary he even writes "to a time where thought is free...from the age of uniformity", s......
