In Arthur Miller's A View From The Bridge, the story takes place in an insular, self-ruled American Italian neighborhood near the Brooklyn Bridge of New York as the title suggests, as we follow the arrival of two Italian immigrants, Marco and Rodolpho into the home of Eddie Carbone, a longshoremen, and his wife Beatrice and orphaned niece, Catherine. Each of these characters have unique personnalities that all gives a different point of view of the story. While it may be discussed that the central theme is centered around immigration, this essay will concentrate itself on the theme of Manliness, hostility and agression found in the play, based around the following characters; Eddie and his hate towards Rodolpho, and Marco, to get a better understanding of both character's actions and how these ideas are connected. Our first main character is Eddie Carbone, a proud man who works as a longshoreman, married to Beatrice. As the play goes on, the arrival of the two italian immigrants, especially Rodolpho, starts to interfere with his pride, and his views on being a man become clearer, ......
