'In Ibsen's drama A Doll's House he explores the conflict between an individual's duty to society and to themselves' In Henry Ibsen's drama A Dolls House, Ibsen returns to the subject so vital to him, the social lie and duty, only this time in a sacred foundation of a home and in the position of a woman in her gilded cage. The author uses the conflicts between society's morals and individuals morals, to portray society during that time. He shows how Nora, the beloved wife of Torvald Helmer and his doll, commits forgery, which is seen as a sinful act by society but through Nora's eyes it is seen as the right. Ibsen also shows how Nora's morals contrast with society's morals and expectations for her. Nora, in her past goes against her father and husband's consents to borrow money to save Torvald who was suffering form an illness. The conflict arises when Krogstad threatens to expose the truth about Nora to her husband. frightened by the thought of Torvald finding out yet manages to content herself with the belief she carries, that he will save her out of the love he has for her.
