6 o'clock in the morning and it was already ninety degrees in Iraq. Our Platoon from Company H was ready to roll out for that day's mission. It seemed like someone or something was trying to keep us from going, because we already had two vehicles with flat tires that morning. The soldiers of Company H were tired, hungry, drenched in sweat, and missed being back home with their loved ones. We were feeling no love at all for anyone or anything or from anyone or anything, but this day we would find love in the most unexpected place at the most unusual time.
Morale for the Platoon was especially low that morning because of one of our comrades recently committed suicide. Our hearts were heavy and not one soldier could crack a smile or dared to try to make a joke. We all felt unloved and unwanted for many reasons that day. Soldiers often experience a lot of depression when they are separated from everything they care for or love in their life.
