Derrick Bell, the author of "Silent Covenants," defines these covenants as "unspoken compromises of interest that include involuntary sacrifices of rights - which ensure that policies conform to a pre-determined set of priorities" (Bell, Pg. 29), thus building the foundation of his central argument. In other words, despite Bell's strong opinion on racism and how prominently it still exists, moreover he wants people to understand the racial deficiencies in the judicial system and how people can attempt to address those issues. Throughout history there has been centuries of historical evidence that racism exists, so why does it seem more important now? The importance if racism in this novel is detrimental in understanding the nature of Bell's opinion, while in the process forming one of your own. Bell uses a multitude of historical evidence and his interpretation of that evidence to support his claims, but not only did he provide us with many examples he also made sure to provide us with a counter argument, which may have been bias at times...but who could blame hi......
