Salem Witch Trial Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The Salem Witch Trials were a very tragic, unusual, and cruel event. They were a series of hearings involving people that were accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts. It began in 1692 when a child was sick and the doctors believed she was touched by evil hands. During this awful time, men and women were often accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death. The punishment for this would often be hanging but there was a rare occurrence where a man was crushed to death.
The belief of witch craft all began with these two girls who began acting bizarre. It started in Salem Village in 1692 when nine year old, Betty Harris, and Abigail Williams, who was eleven, started to have these fits where they would randomly act crazy. It is said that the girls would scream, throw things around the room, craw up in weird positions, made very weird noises and so on. There were reports that the girls would be seen on their knees barking like animals. The children were taken to a doctor where they found no illness or any physical complications.
